NEEDLE TUBE FLIES

Illustrated above are just
a few examples of flies dressed on Grays slim
stainless steel Needle Tubes |
The first needle tube flies, dressed on fine
stainless steel needle tubes with an outside diameter of
only 1.5mm, were developed by Grays of Kilsyth for late
night sea trout fishing. Since their introduction in 2008,
and successful early results, the slim needle tubes have
proven successful also as a base for tying a whole range of
fine bodied flies for salmon and steelhead. They may also be
easily adapted for other predatory species. Their great
attraction lies in:
-
their extremely slim profile, which is
ideally suited to the creation of long slender fish-like lures
as well as very small minitubes
-
their simplicity in dressing, as they
require no body dressing
-
their ability to cut through the surface
quickly and sink to a good fishing depth (about the same
depth as a traditional salmon double of Waddington lure)
fishing more deeply than a plastic or aluminium tube fly
but not quite as deeply as a copper or brass tube
-
Their greater ease of casting, on single
or double handed rods and on floating or sinking lines,
than the heavier and bulkier copper tubes
